Bacon Academy Guidance office is now offering Job Shadowing opportunities for students to spend a day in a career of their interest. The job shadow will allow students to learn the daily schedule of the career,education/training necessary and a chance to ask specific questions. SIGN UP SHEETS are available in the GUIDANCE OFFICE. Please see Ms. Raz with any questions.

Lentz & Lentz will be holding SAT Prep sessions at RHAM High School starting on March 6th. The cost is $338. More information can be found in the guidance office.

THOMAS P. QUINN SCHOLARSHIP If you plan on attending a four year college next year, you are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Applications are in the guidance office. Applications must be postmarked by June 15th.

Scholarship Forms for the Professional Women in Construction, Connecticut Chapter are available in the Guidance Office. This is for students entering a field related to Construction including Architecture or Civil, Mechanical, Structural or Electrical Engineering. Deadline for applications is Friday 3/23/12.

THE LEBANON MILITIA HISTORY MAJORY SCHOLARSHIP : This is a one time scholarship offered to a high school senior who will be pursuing a career in History. An essay and application is required. More information can be found in the guidance office. Deadline to apply is April 15, 2012.

CHVFC LOREN AND MARTHA MARVIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Students who are pursuing a career in State, Local Government, Fire Sciences or Emergency Medical Services can apply for this local scholarship. Deadline is April 10th. Applications are in the guidance office.

THE KLINE FAMILY COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is for Seniors planning on attending UCONN and have community involvement. Applications are in the guidance office. Deadline is April 25th.

The CBCSF is offering scholarships to Connecticut high school students who will be entering college-level programs in architecture, construction-related engineering, construction management, surveying, or planning. You can obtain a copy of the application by going to http://www.cbc-ct.org/pages/scholarship.htm or stop by the guidance office for a copy. Deadline to apply for this scholarship is March 30, 2012.

ASTHMA AND ALLERGY FOUNDATION OF AMERICA SCHOLARSHIP If you have asthma or significant allergies,plan on going to college, have attained a level of excellence in academic and/or extra- curricular activities, you can submit an application for this scholarship. Application needs to be postmarked by February 29th. Application are available in the guidance office or go to www.asthmaandallergies.org.

Ted Martocchio Scholarship Available for a CT resident attending one of the 4 state universities. Must be the child of a Building and Trades Union Member. More info available in Guidance.

"ARRIVE ALIVE" Scholarship Program Carter Mario Injury Lawyers offers ten $1000 scholarships to Connecticut high school seniors. A message was sent to your email via Naviance. More information can be found by going to www.getcarter.com.

Two scholarships are being offered through the Ronald McDonald House. The RMHC/HACER Scholarship--Seniors are eligible to apply if they have at least one Hispanic parent. THE RMHC Scholars Scholarship is opened to all Seniors regardless of race or ethnicity. You can apply online by going to https://aim.applyists.net/RMHC.

Applications are available in the guidance office for the Hair Magic Academy here in Colchester. If you are interested in filling out an application, stop by the guidance office. A scholarship will be given to one student.

Big Y Scholarship Information available in the Guidance Office. Based on academic achievement and merit; Deadline to apply Feb. 1, 2012.

Wendy's High School Heisman Program: Information on this scholarship is available in the Guidance Office. Student applicants must be Seniors who plays at least one sport, and are leaders in school and community.

College Careet Pathways Any 10th, 11th or 12th Grade student who would like to earn up to 14 "free" college credits by taking courses at Bacon that give students both high school and college credit, should see their guidance counselor or Mr. Sefchik. The College Career Pathway (CCP) program is a great way to get a jump start on college. All college credits earned are transferrable to most colleges and universities. Please know that the CCP program has nothing to do with taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses.

There is a important meeting for all students and their parents for the participants going on the World Language Department's trip to France and Spain in April.The meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 8 at 6 PM in the Bacon Academy LMC. If you are unable to attend, please see Ms. Berube or Mr. Withey to get the information regarding the trip.

Save Three Lives! - The next Red Cross Blood Drive at Bacon is Monday 2/13 in the Gym. If you are at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds, you can sign up before school any day this week to donate blood on the 13th. You should schedule to donate during a free period, or ask permission from your teacher if you might miss part of a class. Go Bacon.

Beginning February 6th, you will notice 6 large blue bins in the cafeteria and lobby for recycling. Students are encouraged to recycle as much as possible. Any of the following items can be placed in the bins; glass, aluminum, and plastic including bottles, plastic utensils and containers. Please DO NOT place trash in these bins. The Environmental Club would like to thank the students in advance for helping make a difference!

All ski equipment can be kept in the main office until boarding the bus at 2:30 PM.

Yearbooks are on sale now!!  Log on to www.jostensyearbooks.com to order a yearbook.  If you want your yearbook personalized or if you would like to purchase a plastic cover, you must do so on line.  The only other time you will be able to purchase a yearbook will be in June during yearbook distribution.  Save $10 by ordering online now.  Yearbooks may be ordered on line at www.jostensyearbooks.com ONLY through January 30.

A new Junior Achievement company is coming soon! the USB Lanyard Company is selling a new and unique Bacon Academy product. The USB lanyard will be sold in the cafeteria on B days during all lunch waves starting in December. Be on the lookout for posters and flyers around the school. They will have more information about prices and pictures of the product.

The Grand Canyon is one of the seven natural wonders of the world! YOU can join us in exploring this spectacular area during April vacation, from April 7 to April 11. Our plans include a tour of the Hoover Dam, a hike up an inactive volcano, hikes into the Grand Canyon itself, a raft ride down the Colorado River as it meanders through the Grand Canyon, mountain biking through the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona, and a final stop in Las Vegas at Circus Circus Adventuredome. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore one of the most awe-inspiring locations in the United States. ANY student is welcome to participate in this trip. The deadline for signing up is approaching quickly, so see Mrs. Hopkins or Mrs. Levasseur for more information.

The Cafeteria will no longer be serving breakfast on half days.

Students are reminded that no food or beverages are allowed on the carpeted areas.

Students are not allowed to go to their cars during the day. Also, they should not be parking out back during the day. They can move their cars after school for sports. Thanks.

The math lab is open during study halls in room 2112 for students who need help with their math. A certified math or science teacher is available to help you during study hall periods 1, and 4, 5,6,7,and 8. Just ask your study hall teacher for a pass to math lab. It can be for just a few minutes or longer to work on homework, understanding concepts, or reviewing for quizzes or tests. Take advantage of this important resource to help you succeed in math this year.

Please remember that students should bring in notes for dismissals. Bring the note to the main office and a slip will be given to leave a classroom.

Students are reminded to park in the student parking lot in the front of the building only. No students should be parking in the back parking lot, no exceptions! Students are not allowed to go to their cars during the day. Also, students can move their cars after school for sports.

Please be aware of the buses as you exit Bacon Academy onto Norwich Avenue. Buses do stop and put their lights on to drop off students at the apartment building across the street. Please come to a full stop at the stop sign and remain there until the students have left the bus and the bus lights have been turned off.

Just a reminder! The office phone is for emergency calls only. There is a payphone in the auditorium lobby that requires .50. Thank you for your help.

Freshmen

Nothing at this time.

Sophomore

2014 Class dues: Sophomore class dues are $10. Any student who did not participate in the cheesecake and cookie dough fundraiser is asked to pay class dues. They can be passed in at any time to Ms. Kehoegreen or Mr. Manning. All money goes towards our junior prom location deposit which we will need to pay at the end of this year. Students who pay class dues will recieve a discounted Six Flags ticket for our trip at the end of the year.

Juniors

Seniors

Cap and Gown measurements will be on March 16, 2012 during all lunch waves. The cost is $20. This day is mandatory for all seniors. If there is a problem, please see Mary Anne in the main office.

All boys interested in trying out for boys golf * there will be an informational meeting on 2/10 during homeroom in the gym. If you plan on trying out you must attend. Report to homeroom first and then come to the gym. Please bring a pencil or pen.

There will be an information meeting for all boys' and girls' interested in playing on the tennis teams on February 16 at 2:30 PM in room 3155.

There will be a baseball team meeting on Tuesday, February 14 at 2:20 PM in Portable 10. If you are planning to try out for the JV or Varsity baseball teams. Attendance is mandatory.

Winter Sports Team Pictures Wednesday 2/8/12 - 2:30pm in the gym lobby - with Mrs. Campbell. Don't forget your uniform!

Any girl planning on trying out for the Bacon Academy Girls Softball team, there will be an informational meeting on Monday, February 6 in P10. If you cannot attend the meeting, please see Ms. Dipierro as soon as possible to get the information.


Clubs

 

There will be a PAL meeting on Weds. 2/8 at 7:05 in the art room. PALS need to attend this meeting to sign up as a tour guide for the 8th grade visits next week.

Gay Straight Alliance will meet every Wednesday in the Faculty Lounge from 2:30 - 3:30. All are welcome.
